Keynote Speech: Transportation Infrastructure and Mobility: Impacts of Intelligent Technologies

Abstract: The transformative role of intelligent technologies in reshaping global transportation infrastructure and mobility systems is examined in this presentation. These technologies include technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), autonomous vehicle systems, and big data analytics. Their multifaceted impacts on efficiency, sustainability, safety, and accessibility are analyzed against a backdrop of rapid urbanization and escalating demands for resilient transport networks. Intelligent technologies optimize the performance of traditional infrastructure by enabling real-time monitoring and predictive maintenance of roads, bridges, ports and airports, reducing downtime and lifecycle costs. Autonomous fleets, integrated with smart infrastructure, are poised to revolutionize last-mile delivery, congestion management, and mobility solutions for aging populations and underserved communities. However, widespread adoption presents critical challenges, including cybersecurity vulnerabilities, ethical considerations in algorithmic decision-making, the need for standardized regulatory frameworks to ensure interoperability across regions, and equitable access to these technologies.
